CHARLO — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to improve the safety of five curves on about 7.1 miles of Secondary Highway 212 near Charlo in Lake County. The project begins west of the intersection of S-212 and Dublin Gulch Rd., at reference marker 7.8 and extends northeast for 7.1 miles ending east of the intersection of Dellwo Rd. and S-212 at reference marker 14.9.

Proposed work includes flattening slopes, shoulder widening, rumble strips and upgrading pavement marking, signage and guardrail. Construction is tentatively planned for 2015 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. New right-of-way and relocation of utilities will be required. MDT staff will contact all affected landowners prior to doing survey work on their land. Staff will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding property acquisition and temporary construction permits.
