Meals for the next week or so will be: Thursday, Jan. 19 meat balls, macaroni and cheese; Monday, Jan. 23 roast chicken; Thursday, Jan. 26 pork roast; Monday ,Jan. 30 beef stew.
Meal times are Thursdays at noon and Mondays at 5 p.m. and takeouts are available. Meals are still the best deal in town! We are delighted to welcome several out-of-towners lately. Three Tribal Health employees came over the hill for lunch with us, as well as a resident of Ravalli. Maybe the word is getting out about our good food and friendly atmosphere. Come check it out!

Dave, for all that you do for us here at the center and for all of the times you go above and beyond thank you, thank you, thank you. I don’t think it gets said often enough as to how much you do down here, so we’ll say it now, you are greatly appreciated!

Now that the holidays are over with, maybe things will slow down a bit, especially if the weather stays so cold. But, I guess that we shouldn’t complain about our weather as we could be living in Cordova, Alaska and enjoying the more than 15 feet of snow that they have received so far this winter.
Our yearly dues are now due. This year, they have been raised. You can either pay them here at the center, or drop a check in the mail.
The weekly card party will be held here on Monday, Jan. 23, at 1:30 p.m. Please feel free to come in and join them if you like to play pinochle and visit. Our monthly birthday dinner will be on Friday, the 27th, at noon. Come on in and join us for a great meal of roast beef, and to hear the wonderful music that the band provides us with.
If you haven’t already picked up your senior commodities, please do so. If you have extra plastic bags (and who doesn’t) please donate them to your local Senior Center. We recycle the bags, and use them in our senior commodity program. Just the Ronan Senior Center goes through over 1,000 bags every two months. The Council on Aging can always use help with the commodities, so if you have some free time to donate to them, call them at 676-2367.
Our next Thursday night meal is at 5 p.m. on Feb. 9, and we will be serving roast pork. We will also be having a bake sale that evening and will continue the sale into the following day. We are also planning on having a spaghetti dinner in February and I will let you know when in a later column.
The Nutrition Program and the COA both have to raise what is called “matching funds.” The Nutrition Program alone, has to raise nearly $3,000, and these fundraisers and donations are the way that we do so. The recycling of cans is also a means of raising this money. We appreciate any financial help that we receive from the public.
Attendance has been down at nearly all of the Senior Centers in Lake County, so please consider the centers when you decide to have lunch in town. They all offer great meals (at a lower cost) and where else can you go to visit with so many people? Just give the center of your choice a call and they can tell you the days and evenings when they are having a meal. They will even tell you what’s on the menu for a particular day.
I have heard many people say that they “aren’t old enough” to attend at the centers. Well, you are. You don’t have to be an “old fogey” to join us, as all of the centers accept people of all ages.
Our menu for the rest of the month is: Wednesday (18th) is Swiss steak, Friday (20th) is Polish sausage with Mac and cheese, Monday (23rd) is chicken, Wedneday (25th) is chili dogs, Friday (27th) is roast beef and Monday (30th) is taco casserole.
We are still recycling the cans, and appreciate all who have donated to us. As stated before, this is one of the fundraisers that we have.
If you need a ride to an appointment, please call the COA, at 676-2368. They also need volunteer drivers. so call the same number if you have the time to spare.
Have a great week, and don’t forget to dress for the weather.
