City looks at mobile phone ordinance
POLSON — The Polson City Commissioners gave the OK to city staff to begin drafting an ordinance prohibiting the use of mobile phones while driving in the city.
Commissioner Mike Lies prompted the conversation, which was supported by four members of the council while two voted against. Commissioner Fred Funke said he would like to make sure the city held public meetings to discuss the ordinance and city manager Todd Crossett said that two public meetings were required before the ordinance could be passed. He said the staff will have a draft of the ordinance ready for the next meeting.
Polson Police Chief Wade Nash said the ordinance could be difficult to enforce.
“It will be a challenging thing for our jurisdictional area,” he said. “The Tribes will definitely have to be involved in this.”
