Ronan

I hope that you all had a nice Fourth of July, and had fun celebrating our great country’s birthday.

Congratulations to Bob and Leoba Engels. They were the lucky winners of our first raffle basket. Thanks to the special lady that donated the basket and to all who bought tickets for it. We will be having another raffle later this fall.

Congratulation to Moe Schoon for being voted “Senior of the Year” here at the Ronan center. Moe does a lot of volunteer work here at the Center and around the Pablo area.

The weekly card party was held here on June 17 with 24 people present. Rex Sands had the high score, Del Palmer had the low score, Gene had the most pinochles and Peg Johnson won the door prize. Lunch was provided by Ruby Mocabee. They will meet here, at the Ronan Center, again on July 16 at 7 p.m.

The Veterans rep will be here on Thursday, July 12, from 1-2 p.m. You don’t need an appointment to talk to her, as it is on a first come, first served basis. Our Thursday evening meal will also be that day, at 5 p.m., and we will be serving a great chicken dinner. You don’t have to be a senior citizen to eat here, so come on in and join us.

If you need a ride to an appointment, call the COA (676-2368), and they will schedule the ride for you. However, don’t wait until the last minute, as they need the time to get a driver lined up to take you. You can also call that number if you would like to volunteer to drive for them. They supply the car and the gas, all you need to have is the time.

Our menu for the following week: Wednesday (4th) we are closed, Friday (6th) Polish dogs and mac ‘n’ cheese, Monday (9th) is salad bar, Wednesday (11th) is hamburger gravy and hash browns, Thursday (12th) is chicken dinner at 5 p.m. and Friday (13th) is Sloppy Joes and seasoned potatoes. Our meals on Monday, Wednesday and Friday are served at noon.

Come on in and join us for some great food and to visit with your friends, or to make some new ones.

Dixon

Aren’t we fortunate to be living right here in our valleys of Western Montana! No threatening forest fires nor bad flooding (as of this writing), just sunshine, some breezes, and it cools down at night. Here’s a reminder hint for keeping your flowers blooming longer — deadhead! I started this after I retired, and it really does make a difference in bloom time. Just pick, or cut off the blossoms after they are finished. I spent some time recently cleaning up my huge old-fashioned pink rose bush, in the morning coolness. listening to the varied birds and realizing what a special place we share.

A good time was had by all as our center participated in the county-wide yard sale last week. So many interesting vendors and shoppers coming by to eat, visit, and buy. The center has been utilized for a Tribal meeting, wedding anniversary, and family get togethers recently. It’s air-conditioned and has a kitchen and a dance floor. If you need a meeting place this summer, call Marie Ardis at 246-3528.

There are some new names in the “winner’s circle” of pinochle players traveling to Dixon. Peggy Johnson had the high score, and Sharon Guenzler was the low. Anita Seibert played the most double pinochles. The door prize was won by Jim Barnes. It makes a nice evening’s entertainment to come for dinner at five and stay to play pinochle, on the fourth Monday of each month.

All ages are welcome to join in our tasty and healthy meals, served at noon on Thursdays and five o’clock each Monday. Come get some home cooking, without the mess!

Meals coming up will be: Thursday, June 5 sweet and sour meatballs; Monday, June 9 barbecue chicken; Thursday, June 12 cabbage patch stew; Monday, June 16 Sloppy Joes; Thursday, June 19 turkey.

St. Ignatius

The St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center nutrition program is struggling to make ends meet. The program serves eight or nine meals at the center per month and delivers meals around the south valley. While there are some subsidies for the operation, it is funded largely by donations. No one is denied meals for lack of ability to pay. Although there are notable exceptions, for which the center is grateful, in general, donations received are falling short of costs. Donated foods or funds are always welcome.

The center is closed during the first week of July. The following are senior center activities for the rest of July: July 1-7 center closed; July 9 pinochle, 7 p.m.; July 10 Reuben casserole lunch; July 12 quilters; July 13 baked chicken & birthday cake lunch; July 13 board of directors meeting 10 a.m.; July 17 meatloaf lunch; July 18 roast beef dinner, 5:30 p.m.; July 19 quilters; July 20 baked fish lunch; July 24 ham and scalloped potatoes lunch; July 26 quilters; July 27 spaghetti and meatballs lunch; July 31 hamburgers lunch. Bingo is played after almost every lunch.

For more information, call the center at 745-4462 or write to St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center, Box 758, St. Ignatius, MT 59865.
