Pauline (Howarth) Manning, 94, died June 27, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital in Polson of natural causes.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Polson. Pauline will be buried with her beloved husband, Lyle, who passed away in 1985.

Pauline was born on May 11, 1918, in Great Falls, Mont., to Albert and Theresa Howarth. The eldest of four, she was educated in Great Falls, graduating from the Ursuline Academy, continuing her education with a teaching degree from MSU-Bozeman.

Settling down in Polson, Pauline opened and operated her dress store, “Pauline’s Apparel” until her retirement. In 1971, an aspiring artist, she and five other women started the Sandpiper Art Gallery, which continues to operate today. Pauline’s passion for painting and wood carving continued throughout her lifetime. She always looked forward to spending time with her special friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers, Albert and Richard Howarth. She is survived by her brother Donald (Sharon) Howarth and a special niece Rhonda (Mark) Stein, all of Great Falls, and many more wonderful family members.

Memorials can be sent to the Sandpiper Art Gallery, P.O. Box 1163, Polson, MT 59860-1163 for continuous scholarships for art students. Messages of condolences may be shared with the family online at www.groganfuneralhome.com.
