Well, the Fourth of July is over, the grandkids have all gone home, and the house is quiet. Amen. It was fun to have all of them here, but we sure aren’t used to the noise any more.
The veterans rep is here this week (Thursday from 1-2 p.m.) and our evening meal is the same day at 5 p.m. We will be serving chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, a vegetable, two salads and dessert. Come join us for a wonderful meal.
Cards will be played here on Monday, July 16, at 7 p.m. As always, they welcome new players, so come on in and join them. Senior commodities will be here on Tuesday, July 17. If you receive them, please wait until after 2 p.m. to pick them up. They are again in need of the larger sized shopping bags. If you want to donate some, just drop them off at the center.
The foot clinic is on Wednesday, July 18th, from 10:30 a.m. until noon. You don’t need an appointment, but give us a call and we will get your name on the list. There are only 10 slots available, so the sooner you call, the better. If you would like to stay for lunch that day, we will be serving Swiss steak.
We are trying to get the bingo games going again, and need at least five people to play. For the time being, we will be playing after lunch on Fridays, but if there is enough interest we will also play on Mondays.
The date for the yard sale has not yet been set, but you can bring in donations at anytime. If you need someone to haul them for you give us a call at either 676-2367 or 676-2371.
Our menu for the for next week: Wednesday (11th) is hamburger gravy over hash browns, Thursday (12th) is chicken dinner at 5 p.m., Friday (13th) is Sloppy Joes and seasoned potatoes, Monday (16th) is spaghetti, and Wednesday (18th) is Swiss steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. We also serve a vegetable, two salads, and dessert with each of our meals.
Have a great week, and enjoy the wonderful weather.

We hope you are all enjoying this sunny summer — without the humidity much of the country experiences. And what a plus that it cools off every night. The only downside I’ve found lately is the hordes of mosquitoes, which appear in late afternoon, finally chasing me in from yard work.
There are no mosquitoes in the Dixon Senior Center. Come join us for a no-mess, no-cleanup dinner on Mondays at 5 p.m. and lunch at noon every Thursday. It’s a great place to bring your summer visitors. Jim Barnes has been sharing our lovely area with cousins visiting en route to a family reunion. President Joey Hettick returned from a trip to Las Vegas where she was entered in a poker tournament! I haven’t heard the outcome of that trip yet. Before leaving she made cinnamon rolls, soup and sloppy joe mix, plus pies, for the center’s yard sale the next day!
Our eldest senior, Allene Cole (age 92), shared the winning float in the Charlo Fourth of July parade with her daughter Betty, great granddaughter and great-great granddaughter on a “four generations” float. The missing generation granddaughter will be here later in the month.
Our meals for the weeks ahead will be: Thursday, July 11 cabbage patch stew; Monday, July 16 Sloppy Joes; Thursday, July 19 turkey dinner; Monday, July 23 hamburger casserole; Thursday, July 25 stuffed pork chops; Monday, July 30 oven baked chicken. Come enjoy a meal in air-conditioned comfort. Take-outs are available.
Enjoy our summer, and be safe!

There isn’t much going on here at the center. Everyone is out and about enjoying the beautiful weather and hopefully enjoying good friends and family. We hope that your Fourth of July was a happy and safe one and that you’ll come on in and have lunch with us one of these days, until then have a really great week and we’ll talk again soon.
Now for some card scores. Bridge for June 29 had Donna Cason first and Chuck Aker second and on July 3 Win Baer was first and Stan Peterson took second. There was no pinochle played this week for various reasons and will be back next week.
Luncheon menu: Thursday (7/12) taco salad; Friday (7/13) meatloaf; Monday (7/16) chicken enchiladas; Tuesday (7/17) steak-n-gravy; Wednesday (7/18) spaghetti.
