Block Party
Kids can bounce, slide or get a friend wet in the dunk tank, at a “funtastic” evening of fun and food for kids and adults at the third annual Community Block Party on Thursday, July 26, at the Polson United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. Games and activities begin at 6 p.m. Kids should bring a swim suit and towel to enjoy the “wet” activities. Free food includes hamburgers, hot dogs, desserts and drinks. Emergency services vehicles will be on display for kids to see and touch during the party. Persons of all ages are invited to attend. For information call 883-6161.
Flathead Lakers Annual Meeting
Flathead Lakers will be having their 2012 Annual meeting on Thursday, July 26 starting at 6:15 for social time with the program starting at 7 p.m. It will be held at the Flathead Lake Biological Station on the East Shore with the State of the Lake Report given by Dr. Jack Stanford. There will be an optional half hour lab tour & talk at 6 p.m. & 9 p.m.
People’s Center fun
The People’s Center’s first Annual Family Fun Day will be July 28 from 1-4 p.m. The center is in need of volunteers to help with things. If you can help or know of someone that can, please contact Marie Torosian at 406-675-0160.
Lake County Fair
Plan to attend the Lake County Fair in Ronan, Monday, July 30 through Sunday, August 5. Please call 676-8660 for more information.
Vacation Bible School
A community-wide Vacation Bible School (VBS) will be held Monday, July 30 through Friday, Aug 3, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The camp is for all children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. There is no charge but a freewill offering will be taken daily. Campers will need to bring a sack lunch.
The VBS camp will include worship, Bible study, music, arts and crafts, snacks and games. This year’s day camp will be hosted at First Presbyterian, 301 4th Avenue East. Co-sponsors are Good Shepherd Lutheran and First United Methodist Church.
Counselors from Glacier Presbyterian Camp at Flathead Lake will lead the activities this year. Please call First Presbyterian Church (883-5807) or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (883-5864) with any questions. Registration/Parent Permission Forms can be picked up at any of the three sponsoring churches.
Bumgarner Retirement Celebration
A retirement celebration is planned for choral music teacher Mr. Chris Bumgarner on August 4th at 4:00 in the Polson High School auditorium. An alumni choir of over 60 former students from Shelby and Polson are working on four songs to perform as Mr. “B.” directs his farewell concert.
Attention PHS Alumni Cheerleaders
1980-1998 Polson High School Cheerleaders, your keepsake (old) cheer uniforms will be given away on a first-come basis at the high school commons, Wednesday, August 1st from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For additional information call Carol Jones at (406) 883-4076.
2002 Class reunion
The Polson Class of 2002 will be holding their 10 year reunion on Saturday Aug. 4. The event will kick off at noon at the North Crow Club House on North Foothills Drive in Ronan. It will be a potluck style gathering. Please bring your own food to grill, and your favorite potluck dish and beverage. Grills will be available for use. Plates and condiments will also be available. Class of 1962 reunion
The Polson High School Class of 1962 will be holding a class reunion on Aug. 4, 2012 at the Kwa Taq Nuk Resort in Polson. All friends and family members of the class are invited to the Kwa Taq Nuk to socialize with the class following the dinner at approximately 8 p.m. For more information contact Tom Farrell at 849-5609.
Vacation Bible School
“Going for the Gold” vacation bible school will be from Aug. 6-10 at the Polson Foursquare Church. There will be soccer, art and a cheer camp for students between 9 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday. Free dancing fun
Mission Valley Dance along with Family Matters will be providing free activities for children Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to noon at Riverside Park (weather permitting). Exercise, dance, music and science projects will be available to all ages. Cherry Valley free lunch program will provide lunches as well. French honor medal
Did you help in the liberation of France during World War II? If so, you could be eligible to receive the French Legion of Honor Medal. Created to honor extraordinary contributions to the country, this medal is France’s highest distinction.
To be eligible for this outstanding award, veterans must have fought on French territory in one or more of the four main campaigns of the Liberation of France: Normandy, Southern France, Northern France and the Ardennes.
