Polson hires new superintendent

POLSON — The Polson School District Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that a contract for superintendent of schools for the Polson School District has been offered to Dr. Linda Reksten. The board of trustees expects to approve a signed contract at their Monday, June 11, 2012 board meeting.

Reksten is currently superintendent of schools in Butte, Montana. She has worked in Butte since 2009. Prior to serving as superintendent in Butte she worked for 27 years in a variety of educational positions in California. She is the author of three books on teaching and learning.

According to the Montana Standard in Butte, Reksten accepted the job on Thursday, and is looking forward to being closer to family.

“I learned a lot from Butte,” Reksten told the Montana Standard. “Every place teaches you something, and you want to take it forward.”

Reksten is a graduate of Flathead High School in Kalispell and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Montana State University-Billings. She completed her doctorate in teaching studies from the University of California, Los Angeles.

There were nine applicants for the position and the board chose to interview three finalists. Reksten will assume the duties of superintendent beginning July 1, 2012.
