The Mariners are 12-2 and have won 12 straight games. How have you felt about how the season has gone so far for you guys, with the winning streak and the three no-hitters by your team?
DM: I think we are playing pretty solid, only losing our first two games to Missoula AA, but we always have room for improvement.
The Mariners ended up placing second at state last season while hosting the tournament. What was that run in the tournament like for you and how much do you feel the momentum has carried over into this season?
DM: It was great because nobody thought we should have been in state but we showed them that we belonged there and can compete. Yes I believe it has boosted our confidence coming into this season. When you get on the mound, you’re pretty efficient with your pitch count and can get through innings in a hurry.
What do you think makes you successful as a pitcher and keeps your pitch count down?
DM: Throwing strikes and getting ahead early is a big part. If I can hit my spots consistently it makes for short work. (Dalton had a three pitch inning earlier this season) What’s your favorite part playing baseball?DM: My favorite part would be just being with all my teammates and all the fun team bonding we get to do.
What’s your least favorite thing?
DM: My least favorite would be all the time it takes from you. We are always either practicing, playing games, or doing field work which takes a lot of time, but it’s worth it in the end.
With this being your senior season, what was it like playing school sports and knowing it was your final season for Ronan? How special did it make that foot ball season where you guys made the big run in the playoffs?
DM: It being my senior year, I wanted it to be a memorable year, and knowing I wont ever play sports for Ronan anymore made me work harder. Our football season and going to the playoffs made my senior year that much better.
What are you hoping to do after high school?
DM:I’m going to see what happens after baseball this year, but I am most likely going to go to Montana State University.
