Dixon

It’s nearly the middle of June and the graduations are over, vacations are beginning and the beautiful perennial flowers are in full bloom. I especially enjoy white Shasta daisies, which have become dozens of smaller plants, making a lovely addition to bouquets of deep wine-colored peonies. Using food color, I’ve turned them into pink, yellow, blue and green flowers. Try it!

And somehow, vegetable gardens are mostly planted through the raindrops. My best crop may be the volunteer potatoes and squash plants which scattered themselves in unplanned spots from compost being tilled in at the beginning of spring.

The Dixon melons are in the ground and awaiting the sunny days, which will bring their August treats to eager consumers. Melon Day will be Aug. 25 this year. Several of the favorite activities will be returning for this event, such as the Little Buckaroo Rodeo.

Our next important event will be June 22-23, when we join the Sanders County Yard Sale-ins Event, taking place at the center. (This replaces our monthly flea market for June). Vendors can reserve their tables by calling 246-3271 or 246-3526. Lunch and dessert will be available. Mark your calendars!

The Tuflys brought an overflowing tableful of company to the center recently. What a nice way to eat out, enjoy the friendship, and no cleanup! All ages are welcome at meals, served at noon on Thursdays and at 5 p.m. on Mondays.

Meals coming up for the month are: Thursday, June 14 pork chops; Monday, June 18 beef stir fry; Thursday, June 31 turkey dinner; Monday, June 25 salmon loaf; Thursday, June 28 lasagna. Come on in and join us!

Have you floated away yet? It would be nice it it cleared up and we could get outside and enjoy the pretty flowers and trees.

Thanks to Dan at Rocky Mountain SignWorks for the parking signs for the center. We have deemed it necessary to put up the signs because our parking spaces are being used by people going across the street to the hospital. There is plenty of spaces at the hospital for you to park in, please use them so our seniors don’t have so far to walk. Come join us this Thursday at 5 p.m. for our evening meal. We will be serving roast pork and all the goodies that go with it. The veterans rep will be here on the same day, from 1 to 2 p.m. The pinochle players will meet here on Monday, June 18. The start playing at 7 p.m., and all are welcome to join them.

The foot clinic will be here on Monday, June 20, from 10:30 until noon. You don’t need an appointment, but please call 676-2372 to get your name on the list. There are only 10 slots available, so the earlier you call, the better your chance of there being room on the list. The center and the COA are having another rummage sale later this summer, and they would appreciate any donations that you would care to give. Give us a call (676-2371 or 676-2368) if you need help getting it here.

Our menu for the next week: Wednesday (12th) is ham and noodle casserole and cinnamon rolls; Thursday (14th) is pork roast at 5 p.m.; Friday (15th) is chicken and dressing casserole, Monday (18th) is pork chops; and Wednesday (20th) is potato soup, beef barley soup and sandwiches. We serve at noon and our meals are open to the public.

Have a great week, and come on in and join us for some great food and fellowship.
