MISSOULA — Arlee Superintendent John Miller filed a discrimination complaint against the Arlee School District on Dec. 14, 2011, claiming that he’s been discriminated against in his employment because he is married to Arlee Elementary School principal Lisa Miller.

According to the complaint, John Miller began being subjected to harassment by school board member Amy Burland in April of 2008 based upon his marital status, and that harassment continued until November of 2011.

Superintendent Miller, hired around July of 2007, alleges that Burland has continually attacked both of the Millers’ performance based on their marital status. Miller also claims that this harassment has been ongoing, despite the board being cautioned against discriminatory conduct based upon Miller’s marital status by the board’s attorney.

Miller also alleges that the board has violated policies and procedures in taking actions against him, as well as investigated complaints against him while summarily dismissing complaints against other staff members.

Burland, who became Chairman of the school board around May of 2011, ordered that Miller’s office be moved as a result of the allegations.

Miller claims that he has performed his job in a satisfactory manner.
