The St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center will present its first Movie Night on Tuesday, April 17, with the comedy Night at the Museum, starring Ben Stiller. The movie will be shown on the center’s big screen TV. Donations will be accepted. Popcorn, coffee and sodas will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Volunteers will be staffing an informational table at Rod’s Harvest Foods March 30 and 31 to help the public get acquainted with the services and activities at the senior center.

AARP Volunteers Kay Stamm and Tom Farrell continue to help senior citizens with income tax filings in the center. The assistance is free and is given by appointment only. The service will be available on Tuesday, March 27. To make an appointment, call or drop by the center.

If you haven’t been in to see the new paint job in the dining room, you really should. It is just beautiful! The center would like to thank Dean Durand, who still shoots a mean paint gun, Harvey and Sharon Kenitzer and Gene Watne for all of your help with anything that was asked of you and to our resident interior designers Shirley Laisy and Jo Durand who have done a tireless and beautiful job. We really can’t thank you enough.

The board of directors would like to welcome Dee Adams as their newest member. We appreciate your time and hope you find it interesting.

We still have some openings for the AARP Driving Class on April 24. If you would like to take the class give us a call at 883-4735 and we’ll put you on the list. I also have tax openings for those of you who still need to get them done. Give us a call at 883-4735 and we’ll make you an appointment.

Keep thinking spring and we’ll talk again soon.

This has been real March weather lately. Does anyone have a good use for multitudes of tumbleweeds? They have collected against every fence and barrier which keeps them from rolling into the neighboring field. I’m amazed how some of the little nests stay securely in the branches of trees. I’m hearing from relatives on both coasts that daffodils are in bloom, so it’s predictable that we will soon have lovely flowers to show for the winter’s rest.

We are happy to have cook Diane returned to duty after surgery. She’s a trooper — even kept up with her great homemade wheat bread, the best I’ve ever had! We are so fortunate to have capable and willing helpers who fill in when there’s a need. The corned-beef dinner was so good I’m wondering why it’s only scheduled once a year?

We’ll be looking forward to the next monthly flea market to be held on Saturday, April 21. This is a good time to dig through your planting and summer supplies, and to see what’s excess to your needs.

You are invited to a discussion on diabetes for all who are interested, at our center this Thursday, March 22. This is sponsored by the Tribal diabetes program and is a good time to find out the latest about this increasing condition which affects so many around us. Come at noon for lunch before the meeting.

Meals for the remainder of March will be: Thursday (March 21) Polish sausage; Monday (March 26) ham; Thursday (March 29) sesame beef. All ages are welcome to join in for meals at noon on Thursday and 5 p.m. on Mondays. Think spring!

Have the March winds blown you away yet? There’s been a couple of days that it seemed that it might happen. Better than snow, though.

The month is already more than half over, and that means that it is getting closer to the tax deadline in April. If you don’t have yours done yet, call your local senior citizens to set up an appointment with an AARP tax rep. They are here at the Ronan Center (676-2371) every Friday through the middle of April. The service is free, but you can always make a donation to the center where you are having them done.

The senior commodities are here again. If you haven’t picked yours up yet, please do so. Thanks to all of the volunteers who work with the COA and the centers to get the food distributed. It couldn’t be done without your help.

The foot clinic is this Wednesday (21st) from 10:30 until noon. Our monthly birthday dinner is coming up soon, on Friday the 30th. Please come in and join us for a great meal of roast beef, and to listen to the band play some of the oldies. We serve at noon.

Our menu for the rest of the month: Wednesday (21st) is sausage gravy and biscuits, Friday (23rd) is soup and sandwiches, Monday (26th) is meatballs in gravy, Wednesday (28th) is ham and noodle casserole, and Friday (30th) is roast beef.

Have a great week, and enjoy the great weather.
