School records and PRs fall for Arlee
Since she set a new school record in the shot put two weeks ago, Aspen Meidinger continues to be on a tear for the Scarlets track team. Meidinger set a new shot put record for Arlee with her throws at the Top Ten, Arlee’s home meet on Thursday and at the Superior Gravel Track Meet on Saturday.
Meidinger’s shot put throw of 36-5 at the Superior Gravel Track Meet is the farthest throw by a girl in the district by at least a foot and the farthest throw by a girl in Class C so far this year.
“She keeps breaking the school record everytime she has a meet,” Arlee head coach Russ Baker said. “Every meet she’s constantly improving.”
ARLEE HOME MEET
While weather meant limited participation in Arlee’s home meet, and some events were not completed, there were still some solid marks for the Warriors and Scarlets. Along with Meidinger improving on her school record in the shot put, Sam Nelson set a personal record in the triple jump (40-5) and placed second.
Zack Carver also ran an 11.40 to place first in the 100-meter dash and Clayton Trimble had a 41-foot throw in the shot put.
SUPERIOR GRAVEL TRACK MEET
Carver continued to tear up the sprint races, placing first at Superior in the 100-meter dash (11.53) and second in the 400-meter dash (56.66).
“He’s one of the fastest kids for that 100-meter race,” Baker said.
Donovan McDonald was impressive in the longerdistance races and placed first in the 800-meter (2:18.18) and 1,600-meter race (5:06.66).
“That is the first meet that Donovan ran the 800-meter race,” Baker said.
Sam Nelson continued to be versatile, placing in all five events that he competed in. Nelson was second in the javelin (151-5) while taking third in the high jump (5-2), triple jump (38-7.75) and pole vault (10-0).
“That was the first time that he did the pole vault,” Baker said.
Carver would end up winning the pole vault for Arlee (10-6). In the throws, McDonald was sixth in the javelin (123-8), while Justin Adams was fourth in the shot put (37-1) and sixth in the discus (111-7). Dustin Baker was sixth in the triple jump (36-9.25).
The girls placed second at the Superior track meet as Becca Nelson, Meidinger and Whitney Malatare captured first places for the Scarlets. Nelson was first in the javelin (112-4), while Meidinger set the school record again (36-5) and Malatare was first in the triple jump (30-11.50).
In the races, Jessica Knoll took fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:11.59) and third in the 800-meter dash (3:19.87). Malatare placed sixth in the 400-meter (1:12.79) while in the 800-meter dash, Alexis Shick was fourth (3:21.6) and Tiffany O’Neill was fifth (3:38.78).
Nelson did well in the other throws, placing second in the discus (105-0) and fourth in the shot put (28-10).
“Becca will be ready for districts,” Baker said. Also in the discus, Jenna Pablo was fourth (76-7) and Shick was fifth (69-7).
In the high jump, Malatare was second (4-4) while Nelson was third (4-4). In the long jump, Malatare was third (14-7.50), Pablo was fourth (13-10.50) and Nelson was sixth (13-6).
In the triple jump, the Scarlets shined as a team again with Malatare taking third (14-7.50) while Pablo was fourth (13-10.50) and Nelson was sixth (13-6).
“Jenna is nearing that 14-foot mark,” Baker said.
O’Neill took second in the pole vault (6-6) and Violet Pablo was tied for third (6-0).
COMING UP NEXT
Arlee will travel to Darby on Friday and then to Missoula Big Sky on Saturday.
“I think we’re stacking up pretty good,” Baker said. “We’re getting our best marks of the year. If we stay healthy we’ll be fine.”
