Arlee

The Jocko Valley Quilters group donated a lovely maroon and flower-print quilt to the Senior Center. This generous-sized lap quilt is currently on display at the center, and raffle tickets are available from many of the Seniors’ members during the next few weeks. A drawing for the winner of the quilt will be held during the Arlee Firemen’s Breakfast on July 4. You do not need to be present to win.

Blackfoot Telecommunications is presenting two free computer and Internet classes at Arlee Senior Center on Thursday, May 24. The first is a beginning computer and Internet class from 9 a.m. to noon. The second class is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will cover email, Facebook and other social media.

A drawing will be held on June 1 to select the winner of a laptop computer, from among all the individuals who have attended Blackfoot Telecommunications classes through the past fall, winter and spring.

Lunches are served at noon at the Arlee Senior Center on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Dinners are served at 6 p.m. every second and fourth Saturday evening.

Ever have one of those days when everything goes wrong? Like, you do something on your computer and everything gets messed up. It’s surprising how little you can do in an office when the computer is down. In the “good old days,” you just had to re- sharpen the pencil and go on as usual.

The veterans rep will be here this Thursday (10th) from 1-2 in the afternoon. She has shortened her time here, so if you need to see her, make sure you are here before 2 p.m.

This Thursday is also when we have our evening meal, starting at 5 p.m. We will be serving a great chicken dinner. You don’t have to be a senior to eat here, and families are always welcome.

The foot clinic will be held on Wednesday, the 16th, from 10:30 until noon. You don’t need an appointment, but it is best if you call (676-2371) so we can put your name on the list. AARP will be having a 55-Alive class here on Wednesday the 30th. If you would like to take this class, please call and we will sign you up for it.

We have several of our seniors who are at home sick, and we wish them all a speedy recovery.

Once again, thanks to all who attend the ladies luncheon here at the center. A special thanks to all who helped with it. The ladies in the COA office always do such a great job on this, and it does take a lot of time and effort to get everything done. We are still taking cans for recycling. The drop off point is behind the center. This is a fundraiser for both the center and the COA.

Our menu for the following week: Thursday (10th) is chicken at 5 p.m., Friday (11th) is a fish fry, Monday (14th) is potato bar, Wednesday (16th) is meatloaf, and Friday (18th) is taco salad.

Have a great week, and enjoy the liquid sunshine. Soon, it will be hot and dry.

If any of you have any large flower containers and have no use for them, please let us know. We are redoing the flowerbed on the south side of the building and could really use the extra large flowerpots. Give us a call at 883-4735 and we’ll be glad to take them off your hands.

There will be another AARP driving class in June. I’m not sure of the date, but will let you know when I find out. If you are interested in the class give us a call at 883-4735 and we’ll get you on the list.

I guess that you all have been thinking sunshine because we finally have some so, have a great week and keep up the sunny thoughts!

According to the extended forecast on my computer, we’ve been enjoying 60s/40s for this week. What a welcome change! I am so thankful for spring perennials which come up cheerfully no matter what the weather.

My garden is tilled, strawberries are in flower, I’m potting extra perennials to share at the Mission View Garden Club plant sale this Saturday in Charlo — this is where I got the starts for so many happy flowers. And... the hummingbirds made their appearance at the end of April. Spring is official!

Our monthly flea market will continue on Saturday, May 19. Vendor tables can be reserved by calling 246-3271 or 246-3526. Delicious lunch and pie is available, while you browse and visit.

Here are the raffle winners from last summer’s Melon Days: Blake Herman, rifle with scope; Jake Wallis, 50 pounds of buffalo meat; Peggy Sue Antoine Family, king-size flannel quilt. Congratulations to these lucky ones, and thank you to all who contributed!

Very much appreciation to our former cook, Diane E., who has been available to fill in while cook Diane G. is recuperating. Also thanks to the capable helpers who keep the good meals coming. Also appreciation to Don Siers, who just passed his 91st birthday in good shape. Don just does his helping acts, including Meals on Wheels deliveries, making the morning coffee (and any other time it’s needed), joining in the pinochle players, and anything he sees to do, with good nature and sometimes a new joke.

The next meals coming up will be: Thursday, May 10 salmon patties; Monday, May 14 chicken and rice dish; Thursday, May 17 pulled pork sandwich; Monday, May 21 Sloppy Joes.

All ages are welcome to join in our meals at noon on Thursdays and at 5 p.m. on Mondays. If you’d like to reserve our center for a graduation or Mother’s Day celebration — or any other occasion, just contact Marie Ardis at 246-3528. There are so many community activities to do this season... check the papers, invite a friend, and enjoy getting out.
