Pedestrian struck by unlicensed driver

POLSON — A Hot Springs woman was hit by a white sport utility vehicle while crossing the intersection at 1st Street East and Hwy 93 also called 2nd Avenue on Sept. 27 at approximately 10:53 a.m. 

The incident occurred a block away from the Polson Police Station whose officers were the first responders on the scene.  

Angela Shelton heard the woman, “make a sound” and rushed outside of her shop  to see what happened. Shelton said that she saw the woman, “grab her knee.”   

The woman was taken by  ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital and was released later that day according to Assistant Polson Police Chief John Stevens. 

Chief Craige Couture of Tribal Police said, “we issued three citations to the driver including failure to yield,  no valid driver’s license and no liability insurance.”  

According to reports made to Chief Couture, the woman was walking in the proper section and did have the walking signal.

Shelton said, “you are supposed to stop, pedestrians have the right-away.” She continued, “I have seen families with kids almost get hit at that intersection.People just turn without even looking.”
