RONAN — It was a bittersweet Saturday for the Ronan volleyball team, as the Maidens started the day with a sweep of Bigfork, but were then swept themselves by Eureka in their next match.

Ronan made short work of the District 7-B Valkyries, reeling off three straight set wins (25-22, 25-19, 25-15) to take the match 3-0.

Sophomore Sydnee Clairmont put on a solid showing for the Maidens, leading the team in both assists (five) and blocks (three).

Fellow sophomore Kendra Starkel also stood out in the match after collecting six of the team’s 13 aces.

Courtney Taylor topped all Ronan players with six kills, while Courtney Clairmont posted a team-high seven digs against Bigfork.

The Maidens then took on Eureka, another District 7-B opponent, in attempt to bring their record to 2-0.

However, the Lady Lions were on top of their game, trouncing Ronan 25-15, 25-14 and 25-17 for the 3-0 victory.

Eureka’s winning performance was led by Cassidy Morgan, who racked up nine aces, 13 digs and a block in the match.

For the Maidens, Taylor accounted for half of the team’s blocks (three) and aces (two) against the Lady Lions.

Courtney Clairmont paced the team once again in digs with seven, while Sydnee Clairmont led the Maidens with four assists.

Alaina Madsen and Starkel tied for the team-high in kills with three apiece.

Ronan head coach Naomi Mock could not be reached for comment.
