RONAN — Bailey Speagle and Justin Krahn walked out of the Mission Mountains late Tuesday and are safely back at their homes.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) had been trying to locate the two juvenile runaways for more than 48 hours. The fourteen year old female, Speagle, and the 15 year old male, Krahn, were reported missing early Sunday morning, Sept. 23rd. After questioning friends and family of the two juveniles, it was determined that the pair had purposely taken camping gear, clothes, food, water and other necessary items to spend an undetermined amount of time in the Mission Mountain wilderness area east of Pablo.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (LCSAR) was mobilized to see if their tracks could be picked up to confirm their direction of travel. LCSAR located the juvenile’s tracks and did confirm that they were heading up into the mountainous wilderness area. The trackers were called off Sunday evening due to darkness.

News releases and social media pages were used to quickly spread the word about the pair’s disappearance, as citizens were on alert for individuals matching their description or their blue and yellow Kelty backpacking tent.

The public was advised not to approach the two, in the case of an encounter.

Following their safe return, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office thanked those citizens who called in with information on the case.
