MVCA career preparedness

POLSON — Mission Valley Christian Academy senior Joshua Lake went through a mock job interview with Kelly Bishop last week. The interview was part of a career fair at the school, during which three local professionals spoke to students about what they're looking for in potential employees and conducted mock interviews. Bishop helped with the event last year, too, and said it's important for the students to be exposed to what the job market looks like. Career fair experiences, while not real, help students be better prepared, Bishop said.

The one thing to do during an interview? "To be honest about whey they're there," Bishop said.

Although the career fair is only a few years old, MVCA hopes to expand it as an annual event, said Christian Bumgarner, the school's director. "It's just a good life skill that everyone has to have," he said about interviews. "The more experience they have, the more relaxed they'll be," he added. Students also learned about resume writing and building references, Bumgarner said.
