ST. IGNATIUS — Sitting right on U.S. Highway 93 in St. Ignatius, the brand new Altitude Bar and Grill is impossible to miss. Open for just over a month, owners Ken and Adrienne Scott hope that soon its food, drink, and atmosphere will add to its reputation as a can’t-miss destination, in addition to its location, alone.

“We’d been looking at this place for ten years and discussing it with family members for a long time,” Ken says, describing how Altitude came to be.

Finally the time and the price were right, coaxing the Scotts to make the leap.

“We decided to bring something new to St. Ignatius. Totally different food, totally different service,” said Ken. Those original twists will be embodied by unique specials such as Mexican-themed ‘Fiesta Fridays’, followed by ‘Sushi Saturdays’.

The family-oriented establishment currently serves lunch and dinner and has a well-stocked bar. Once things settle down from the restaurant’s “take off”, service will eventually be expanded to include breakfast, too. Altitude also offers a happy hour from 4-6 p.m., though Ken insists that the restaurant has some of the cheapest drinks in the county to begin with.

Ken, who has ample experience as a helicopter pilot, says that the name is a salute to his interest in aviation and also reflects one of Altitude’s core missions of paying homage to veterans.

“I come from a military family, so I have a real respect for all our veterans,” says Scott, who adds that he has received lots of supportive comments on Altitude’s ‘Veterans Wall’ - where items commemorating the heroics of local veterans are proudly displayed.

Besides having dinner or a drink, the restaurant is an ideal setting for a wide range of events, from casually watching sports on the big-screen TV upstairs to reserving one of two multi-purpose rooms that are available for large parties and receptions. Altitude is even capable of bringing the party to you, as Scott says that they do catering and are licensed to serve alcohol remotely.

The Scotts have ambitious plans for the place and are quick to mention that the current amenities offered at Altitude are only the tip of the iceberg. Future developments set to unfold include the addition of a game room with pool tables downstairs, and an outdoor deck for use in warmer seasons. Night or day, winter or summer, Altitude looks to be a staple of the Lake County social scene for years to come.
