Girls Runner of the Year

Claudia Hewston, Polson, seniorHewston capped off a stellar career with a fourth-straight all-state finish, her 19:24 at Class A state meet good enough for fifth. She also won the Highlander Invitational 4 km race in Spokane, Wash. on Sept. 14.

Boys Runner of the Year

Tel Motichka, Polson, senior

Building on a strict summer training regimen, Motichka was by far the most consistent top runner in the county. His best race came in the regional meet at Whitefish, where he turned in a personal record 16:39 that landed him fifth in Northwest A.

Girls All-County Team

Isabella Seemann, Polson, freshman

Seemann turned in some huge performances as the top newcomer for Polson’s girls, including a fifth-place Northwest A conference finish and seventh at the Highlander Invitational in Spokane, Wash. She was one of just two Pirate girls to break the 20:00 mark this season.

Tegan Bauer, Polson, seniorPart of a huge senior class of Polson girls, Bauer notched four top 15 performances. She finished 14th for the Pirates at the Northwest A meet.

Anna Young, Polson, freshman

Young improved all season long, capping off the season with her best run (20:31) at the Northwest A conference meet and a 21:46 showing at the Class A state meet in Missoula.

Kiana Howell, Ronan, senior

Ronan’s homecoming queen ground out a 21:14 at Class B’s state race, her strongest performance of the season. She finished 11th at Western B’s divisional race on her home course.

Amanda Stobie, Polson, senior

Yet another Polson senior, Stobie ran a career-best 20:35 at the Northwest A race to place 11th for the Pirates. Her 22:01 at state saw her to a 61st-place finish.

Jessica Knoll, Arlee, senior

Knoll notched a third-place finish at the Scarlets’ home meet and ran a 22:27 at Class C’s state race to place 26th in the final jaunt of her high school career.

Boys All-County Team

Donovan McDonald, Arlee, senior

McDonald didn’t run a whole lot this season, but when he did it counted. The senior earned all-state honors with a 17:40 in the Missoula meet that placed him eighth.

Warren Wood, Polson, sophomore

A first-year cross country runner, Wood’s 17:39 at the Northwest A conference meet placed him 12th. He followed that performance with an 88th-place finish at the Class A state meet.

Daniel Koehler, Ronan, freshman

Koehler’s 18:07 run at state saw him as the fastest Chief in Missoula that day and earned him a 42nd-place finish. Koehler highlights a strong freshman class for Ronan.

Thunder Morales, Polson, junior

Morales ran third for the Pirates at the state meet two weeks after posting a personal best 18:00 at the Northwest A meet in Whitefish.

Jackson Duffey, Ronan, freshman

Another strong freshman for the Chiefs, Duffey’s 13th-place 18:07 at the Western B divisional meet was evidence of his improvement over the season. Look for him to make noise in the coming years.

Tate Weingart, Mission, sophomore

The most consistent runner for the Bulldogs, Weingart won Arlee’s Fish Hatchery Classic on Sept. 17 with an 18:30 and turned in an 11th-place 17:57 in the Western B divisional race.
