DRUMMOND — Arlee’s basketball teams were some of county’s the few to hit the road this weekend as they traveled to Drummond’s invitational tournament.

The Warriors saw senior Josh Reed average 30 points per game in their two victories—62-49 over Seeley-Swan and 70-64 over host Drummond—on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

“The offense involves our high post, and fortunately he just shot really well,” first-year coach Zanen Pitts said.

Pitts said that despite Reed’s scoring numbers, the wins were the result of well-rounded team play, something he would like to see continue.

“It was a pretty awesome team effort,” he said. “…All the kids together contributed to both wins.”

Drummond got hot from the field in the second game of the weekend, piquing doubts in Pitts’ mind about the outcome.

“Any shot they put up, it was money,” Pitts said. “They were tough. I didn’t think we were going to beat them.”

He said that “typical first-game jitters” like ball-handling mistakes and decision-making contributed to the nail-biting tendency of the contest, but that some big shots by Reed and Patrick BigSam, who scored 14 points in the game, were enough to pull through.

The Arlee girls didn’t enjoy the same luck, though, dropping their two games to Seeley-Swan, 60-46, and Drummond, 59-34.

Violet Pablo scored 12 points in each game, and Whitney Malatare added 24 points in the loss to Seeley-Swan.
