Clairmont, Ronan girls open year with win over Libby
Ronan’s girls basketball team turned in the most impressive girls basketball performance of the weekend, drubbing Libby, 44-19, on Friday behind 24 points from Raymi Clairmont as Polson and Ronan co-hosted the two-day Northwest A/Southwest A Tip-Off.
The Maidens didn’t fare so well on Saturday, though, as they fell to Bigfork, 43-18.
Clairmont again led Ronan, this time with eight points.
Polson’s girls suffered a similar fate over the weekend, unable to find much of the basket. Not a single Pirate player scored in double figures in their two losses, 38-16 at the hands of Dillon and 47-28 to Anaconda.
Ronan coach Shelly Buhr was encouraged by what she saw in the Maidens’ season-opening victory.
“They played really well the first night,” she said. “They were running the offense and doing everything we asked.”
Buhr said that Bigfork’s height hindered the bread and butter of the Maidens’ offense, the inside game, but that her girls just seemed sluggish on the second day of the tournament.
“We looked a little winded and a little tired, like we’re not in good shape yet, but we can work on that.”
The Maidens will travel to Florence on Friday to open up the district schedule before hosting Eureka on Saturday.
Polson will wait until after the holiday break to begin Northwest A Conference play, but the Pirates do host Flathead tonight and travel to Hamilton on Saturday.
