Scarlet Warriors cruise past Vikings, 87-51
ARLEE – Powered by Zackary Camel’s triple double and a strong all-around team effort, the Arlee Warriors beat the Vikings of Charlo 87-51 in a convincing win last Friday night in Arlee.
Camel’s 18 points, 10 rebounds and a staggering 18 assists gave him his second triple double in as many games. The Polson transfer also turned in five steals as the young point guard dominated at both ends of the floor.
“He just amazes me,” said head coach J.R. Camel, who is also Zackary’s uncle. “I’ve been working with him all of his life. The things he has been able to do on the basketball court as a high school player are amazing.”
Arlee’s pressure defense disrupted Charlo’s offensive flow as Vikings turnovers piled into easy transition baskets for the Warriors.
The decisive win suggested a total team effort on the part of the Warriors. The team compiled 25 assists en rout to their 87-point outing. The unselfish play fueled a balanced offensive attack for the Warriors. And although individual performances like Zachary Camel’s triple double stand out, Coach Camel has been most impressed by his team’s collective effort.
“Our teamwork has been great, playing unselfishly and making the extra pass,” said coach Camel. “Our bench play has been outstanding - we’re having no let downs when our starters come out and our bench comes in.”
The loss dropped the Charlo Vikings to 3-3 in the league, and 4-5 overall. This was the Vikings first loss in three games, ending a small two-game winning streak. The Vikings are off until Jan. 26 when they face Noxon.
The victory against Charlo, accompanied with another win Saturday against Two Eagle River – a game where Zachary Camel recorded another triple double - kept the Warriors 5-1, 8-2 and within one game of district-leading Superior. Arlee dominated Two Eagle River in a 107-68 lopsided win. The 107-point outing was the most by Arlee this season. The Wariors were led by Rocky Lewis’ 24 points and Zane Ligas’ 22 points. Not to mention, a third consecutive triple-double for Camel, who finished with 19 points, ten rebounds and 14 assists.
The two wins made it four in a row for Arlee, who have now won six of their last seven games. The Warriors will have the chance at a share of first place when they take on the Bobcats in Superior Friday, Jan. 18.
