Rethinking health:

| July 18, 2013 11:50 AM

The word chiropractic raises eyebrows.  In fact, the American Medical Association tried to abolish chiropractic practice calling it “unscientific medicine.”

Some patients say they will never return to a chiropractor due to a negative experience of leaving the appointment in worse condition than when they entered the office. Other people have heard that a visit to the chiropractor goes hand in hand with physical pain.

Dr. Pamela Sandall and Carrie Sorrell have heard it all before, but opinions of chiropractors are changing.

Sandall has cared for the Polson area for two decades.  A year and a half ago Sandall switched gears, and is practicing what she likes to call the new school of chiropractic. Her focus is removing the underlying neurologic stress that causes loss of health and wellness. She said it has revolutionized how she practices.

The method is called MC2. By focusing on removing the neurological stress, Sandall treats the root of the problem rather than just the physical effect of the stress on the body.

Stress, she said, is the cause of many illnesses, be it emotional, chemical or physical stress.  This stress affects our nervous system, which control sensory, motor and autonomic functions within our bodies.  This can be a tingling or numbness in the hands and feet, a muscle spasm in a shoulder or a heart that is not working at 100 percent.

The effected nerves then cause added stress on the muscles which in turn place stress on the skeletal system.  This can result in a misaligned vertebrae or any number of painful injuries.  Typically, a patient seeks the help of a chiropractor once the problem has manifested physically, when something needs to be “popped back in.”

But Sandall said it is the nervous system that needs to be balanced in order to improve a person’s health and well-being.  Once they started focusing on balancing the nervous she said, “the results were outstanding.” “Our patients have reported far better success with conditions such as colic, fatigue, loss of energy, digestive problems, headaches and report they perform better, have more energy and feel younger.”

People from all ages benefit from this safe, gentle, effective and non-invasive technique.

Each patient’s results also depend on how they take care of their bodies before and after each visit to Sandall’s office.  A healthier lifestyle supports overall health and wellness. Sandall and Sorrell are ready to support patients with nutrition, exercise plans, stretching and massage.  The duo has also added a yoga instructor to the team to help keep patients feeling their best.

“We’re focused more than ever on health and wellness. We’re more focused on a cause, a purpose” Sandall said. “We’re more focused on patients performing their best.”
