Senior news - May 16
Ronan
A thanks to all of the Ladies from the COA for doing such a wonderful job of the ladies luncheon last Saturday. As usual, they did a wonderful job, and everyone had a great time.
The annual yard sale is fast approaching. This year it will be on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, May 1. If you have any donations for this fundraiser, please bring them to the center at 528 Main St. S.W. (across from the hospital). If you can’t get it here, call us (676-2371 or 676-2367), and we will arrange to pick it up.
We are still accepting cans for donation. Just drop them off at the back of the center. This is also a fundraiser for the center and the Council on Aging, and all donations are greatly appericated.
Our birthday dinner is at noon Friday, May 31. So come on in and check out our sale and then join us for a great meal and some old time music. As with all of our meals, this is open to the public.
We are still having a craft/painting day on Wednesdays after lunch, and playing Bingo after lunch on most Fridays.
Our menu for the following week is: Friday, May 17, meatloaf; Monday, May 20, swiss steak; and Wednesday, May 20, chicken.
Have a great week and enjoy the warm weather.

I see that some of our snowbirds have returned and are looking like they wintered pretty well. We are glad to have you home again and if any of you are interested in cards, we have Bridge on Tuesdays and Fridays and Pinochle on Thursdays. They both start at 12:30 p.m., and we would like to see if there are any Cribbage players out there also. Give us a call here at the center, 883-4735, and we’ll see what we can do to get you a spot at a table. We hope to hear from you.
It is that time of year again when we are getting ready to plant a garden, so to all of you gardeners out there when you are planting your fruits and veggies if you have the room, please plant a row for a donation to our Nutrition Program here at the center. We love nothing more than receiving fresh produce grown locally and Kelli will work her magic and whip up a wonderful salad. We thank you for your generosity in advance.
I hope all of you senior golfers are signing up for the Senior Golf Tournament sponsored by Farmers Insurance. It will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19. For more information, contact the Pro Shop at 883-8230, Tracy Dooley at 883-0900 or go online at www.polsonbaygolf.com. All proceeds are to benefit our senior center here in town. Remember, we are “Seniors Helping Seniors.”
I know that this is a little lat,e but we would like to thank all of you who came in and had your taxes done by our AARP Preparers. We hope to see you all next year. And to Kaye Stam and Tom Farrell, thank you for your dedication and your volunteering each year to help so many people. I know that it is greatly appreciated by all.
Now for some card scores. Bridge scores for May 3 were Win Baer first and Ruth Baer was second, and May 7 had Doris Gorsuch first and Paul Doolittle was second. No Pinochle again this week.
Upcoming menu:

We once again enjoyed Brunch for Lunch, featuring quiche and biscuits and gravy — a real favorite in this part of the country. Jerry Hamel tried his first quiche, which met with his approval! I’m hoping this will be a monthly menu item. Coming up will be:
Thurs. May 16 Chicken & dumplings
Mon. May 20 Tilapia (fish)
Thurs. May 23 Pork roast
Remember the evening meal on Mondays is served at 5:30, and lunch is at noon on Thursdays. Delene Tufly brought her sister and brother-in-law, Luthera and Bob Hindman, from Sisters, Ore., to join us last week. A good place to bring your visitors, in air-conditioned comfort with great food!
Melon report: They’re going in the ground next week! Bring on that sun!
It’s time to start thinking, as you do “Spring Cleaning,” what you may be able to part with. Our center, and community, will be part of the Sanders County Yard Sale-ing which is the last weekend in June. Details will be provided later.
