Mack Days Update

It is a race to the finish.  Fall Mack Days is in its final week and the numbers are stacking up.  A total of 11,766 lake trout have been entered in the event so far.  Anglers can fish straight through to the end of the event which is Sunday November 17th.  Entries continue to be taken until the last day of the event.

Mack Days Fishing Events are sponsored by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and are used as a tool to slowly reduce the numbers of non-native lake trout in Flathead Lake.  Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks sanction the events.   

Taking over the lead in the event is Roger Dilts of Polson with 834 lake trout entries and an average of 50.2 for his best fifteen days.  Second is Tim Mooney of Missoula with 759 entries and an average of 47.07, 3rd-Mike Benson-Lonepine-758-48.8 average, 4th-Scott Bombard-Missoula-727-44.7 average, 5th-Steve Benson-Four Lakes, WA.-633 and a fourteen day average of 45.2, 6th-Terry Krogstad-Kalispell-616-68.4 nine day average, 7th-Phil Meredith-Kalispell-542-3535, 8th-Danny Smith-Hot Springs-475-30.5, 9th-Richard Kreis-Huson-353-22.8, and 10th-Larry Ashwell-Missoula-348-21.6.  Top Ten Anglers are placed by their best fifteen day average at the end of Saturday’s fishing.  Sunday is a separate day of the competition but fish count does go on totals for the bonuses.  

Jeanee Mooney of Missoula continues to lead the ladies with 325 and an eleven day average of 21.6 which could place her in the top ten if her numbers continue to be good. Laurie Kreis of Huson is in second with 121, Deana Knipe-Polson-106, and Julie Vacca-Florence has 49.  

Roger Dilts hit the jackpot on Friday with three $100 fish and Gary Stolz of Missoula turned in three over 3 days, Terry Krogstad, Shawn Madsen, Phil Meredith, Scott Bombard, Danny Smith, John Gauci-Missoula X 2, Richard Kreis X 2, Mike Benson, Glenn Hoffman-Missoula, Paul Gyles-Stevensville, Tony Incashola-St. Ignatius-Bret Thompson-Charlo, and Steve Benson all had $100 lake trout.  Tim Mooney turned in a $200 lake trout.  

Last day of the Bucket of Fish winner was the team of Mooney/Mooney with a weight of 21lbs.12 ozs.  Team  Kreis/Kreis was second with 21lbs. 2ozs.  Overall winners over three days of the Bucket of Fish Competition is the team of Kreis/Kreis-Huson with 64lbs. 1 oz., 2nd-Meredith/Schiff-Kalispell with 58lbs.9ozs, 3rd-Mooney/Mooney-Missoula with 58lbs.

Mack Days ends with a fish fry for friends and families on November 17th starting at 4 p.m. at the Blue Bay Campground and the awards begin at 5 p.m.
