Romero named winner
RONAN — Incumbent city council member Roger Romero won a deadlocked election for Ronan Ward 1 commissioner after a tiebreaking decision by the city council at Monday night's meeting. Romero won with a landslide 4-1 votes from other council members.
Romero abstained from the vote. He was not present at the meeting but was patched in via conference call.
Romero and opponent Tracy Morigeau Frank tied with 51 votes each in the general election vying for the Ward 1 spot. Newly re-elected mayor Kim Aipperspach said it was the first time he has seen a tie in a council race. After a recount confirmed the tie, Aipperspach said state code mandates that the council must appoint one of the two candidates to fill the position.
