Home Sweet Homecoming
POLSON — Polson’s Pirates got plenty of good news in Friday’s 32-22 homecoming win over Frenchtown.
The best news was the victory, of course, which sent the Pirates to 1-0 in Northwestern A Conference play and 3-1 on the 2013 season, but Pirate fans had to be happy to see senior Brady Hislop healthy and on the field again.
Hislop left the preceding game against Browning the first quarter with a minor injury, grinding the Pirate offense to a near halt over the divide.
With 131 rushing yards on 14 carries and 11 tackles from his position at linebacker, Hislop looked anything but banged up against the visiting Broncs.
Impressive as his effort was, quarterback Andrew Weltz may have had the bigger game for Polson, accumulating 116 rushing yards on 23 carries and throwing for another 121 yards. He rushed for two touchdowns and threw another one.
Polson running back Jacob Clairmont and receiver Hudson Smith also found the end zone in the victory. Smith’s score came on a huge 65-yard pass from Weltz.
