Mildred Weber Hanson

Mildred Audrey Mullen Weber Hanson was born April 16, 1920 in Forest Park, Ill.  She died October 15, 2013 in Polson at age 93.

Her parents were Lewis J. Mullen and Mildred Seibert Mullen.  She had two brothers, Arnold Mullen and Lewis J. Mullen.

In high school Mildred ran track, sang in the choir and was in the drama club.  After graduation she went to work at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago then a few months later at Modern Supply, a railroad and industrial supplier in Chicago.  During World War II she managed the business.

Mildred loved school and continued her studies even while working.  She attended DePaul University at night and graduated in 1948, with a BA in English, and minors in History and Philosophy.  She was a straight A student and known throughout her life for her mastery of the English language and the written word.

In 1953 she married Willett F. Weber, attorney, mechanical engineer and officer in the Naval Reserve.  They moved to Polson in 1959 upon his retirement.   Bill died on January 4, 1979.  After Bill’s death, Mildred worked for Jean Turnage & C.B. McNeil at their law office.

She later worked as secretary to Frank Hazelbaker, Majority Leader of the Montana State Senate in Helena and then finally at the Security State Bank & Trust Company in Polson until her retirement.

She married her longtime friend J. Hilbert Hanson on October 20, 2002 in Sequim, Wash. and their lifelong mutual friend J.A. Turnage, performed the ceremony.

She lived in Sequim and then Lacey, Wash.  After Hib’s death she returned to her beloved Montana in 2012 where each day she marveled at the ever changing beauty of Flathead Lake.

Mildred loved to read, had a great appreciation for proper English and thoroughly enjoyed yard work.  She was a true and loyal friend.  (Mildred, I sincerely hope this does not contain too many grammatical mistakes.)

She is survived by her brother Lewis and his 5 children, Lewis, Daniel, Regina, Judith and Betsy, her daughter in law Vickie Hanson, and grandchildren, Patrick Hanson, Kimberly Hach, Skyler Hanson, Trever Hanson and great granddaughter, Brennah Hach.

Memorials may be made to Polson Dollars for Scholars or the Greater Polson Community Foundation.

A memorial service will be held next summer.

A special thank you is extended to all her caregivers at The Retreat.

Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements.  Condolences may be sent to groganfuneralhome.com.
