Polson tames Blue Ponies
POLSON — Led by a host of seniors on Senior Night, Polson’s football hasn’t looked any better than they did in Friday’s 52-20 blowout win over visiting Havre.
Quarterback Andrew Weltz ran for three touchdowns and threw another, and big tailback Brady Hislop found the end zone twice more on the ground to lead the Pirate offense.
“Offensively, we played a great game,” Scott Wilson, the Pirates coach said. “ … It was a great win on Senior Night.”
The Pirate defense surrendered 14 first-quarter points to Havre’s passing attack, but they hunkered down and turned in a solid final three quarters.
“[We] really picked up the defensive pressure as the game progressed,” Wilson said.
It was a pair of seniors who led that unit as well; Dylan McCrumb recorded five tackles and a sack, and Cedrick Smith picked off two Blue Pony passes in the contest.
Both Hislop and Weltz eclipsed the century mark in rushing, tallying 136 and 155 yards on the ground, respectively. Weltz passed for another 118 yards.
Polson, now 5-2 (2-1) on the season hopes to carry that momentum into next week’s regular season finale at unbeaten Columbia Falls.
