MISSOULA — Polson’s Claudia Hewston polished off a high school career for the record books at Saturday’s cross country state championships in Missoula.

The Pirates senior posted a fifth-place finish (19:24), marking a fourth consecutive all-state season for the senior.

Arlee’s Donovan McDonald earned all-state honors in the Class C boys race. His 17:40 was good enough for eighth place. The Warriors finished seventh as a team.

Polson freshman Isabella Seemann (20:36) capped off a breakout year with a 23rd-place showing.

The Pirate girls team finished sixth at the meet.

“Of course the senior girls would have loved to wrap up their careers with a team podium, but without Alisha [Jore] and Hallie [Hovenkotter, who toughed through a knee injury] at full strength, it just wasn’t in the cards,” Polson coach Matt Seeley said.

Hannah Madsen set a personal record at the meet for the Polson girls.

Tel Motichka, Polson’s top boys runner, finished 36th at the state meet. Underclassmen Warren Wood, Thunder Morales and Chris McDonald turned in strong performances to power the Pirate boys to a 17th-place finish.

“The best part of this group is how well they ran together and used the pack mentality to improve their focus and toughness,” Seeley said.

Both Ronan’s girls and boys teams placed 11th in the Class B races. Kiana Howell led the Maidens with a 25th-place finish (21:24) while Daniel Kohler (18:07) finished 42nd to lead the Chiefs.
