The Pirate boys struggled in their season opener. They kept things close until the 15-minute mark when the Vikings netted two goals within a matter of minutes to seal the win.
Jonah Kasnitz scored Polson’s lone goal on an assist from Sam Heutmaker.
“We’re still trying to work on coming together as a team,” said Polson coach Jess Kittle. “It’s always tough to open up the season with a conference opponent.”
Kittle noted sloppiness on both team’s parts.
“Bigfork just capitalized on our mistakes and we weren’t able to on theirs,” Kittle noted.
The veteran coach has a young team this year with just one senior, and he is waiting for his junior class to come together. He expects them to provide leadership and set an example on the team.
Kittle is using this first loss. as a learning experience for later in the season.
“Bigfork played really solid, and I can’t wait to see them again,” he said.
The boys will take the field immediately following Polson girls’ contest against Belgrade tomorrow.
