ST. IGNATIUS — Following a blowout loss at Eureka in their first game of the season, things got no better for the Mission Bulldogs on their home turf.

Visiting Whitehall jumped out to an early lead and rode stifling defense to the tune of a 51-0 drubbing of Rich Ferris’ young Bulldog squad.

“We played terrible,” Ferris said bluntly. “We got beat deep on a few plays. There were a few plays where the secondary got mixed up.”

Mission’s anemic offense managed just one first down in the contest, the Bulldogs young line getting beat up front regularly.

Ferris said he’s looking for improvement throughout the season with a team that is certainly a work in progress rather than finished product.

“I’m more worried about us learning football and having fun,” the coach said. “I don’t want to set goals too high or too low.”
