VOLLEYBALL

Charlo 3, Arlee 0

ARLEE — Charlo’s volleyball team opened its season in style, defeating Arlee in straight sets, 25-9, 25-14, 25-14.

Aspen Runkel and Michaela Krahn each spiked eight kills in the game, and Sienna Brown and Alyssa Doty each contributed seven.

Runkel also had team highs in digs (19) and aces (three).

The Vikings’ Madison Foust contributed five blocks.

For the Scarlets (1-1), Alexis Shick made five blocks, and Bailey Rice tallied seven assists.

Polson at Hamilton Tournament

HAMILTON — The Pirates tied for second in pool play, going 7-4 against teams from the Southwestern A conference. Jaiden Toth led the Pirates in aces, digs and assists.

“She is a natural leader, and her ability to be a leader on the court will make us a stronger team this year,” Polson coach Jan Toth said.

RONAN — Fighting back from a 2-0 deficit (and losing the first game 25-8), Ronan won three in a row behind strong net play.

Troy 3, Mission 2

TROY — Lindsay Johnson’s 13 kills and 18 digs weren’t enough to lead the Bulldogs to victory on the road, as Troy tipped them, 25-21, 29-27, 19-25, 20-25, 12-15.

Kaylie Durglo and Jordyn Eichert split the setting duties, per normal, each dishing out 16.

The Bulldogs fell to 0-3 on the season.

SOCCER

POLSON — Mission Valley Christian Academy’s soccer team posted a 1-1 record over the weekend, falling to Helena Christian, 3-1, on Friday and defeating Foothills Community Christian, 4-3, on Saturday.

Nick Windauer scored two goals in the Sting’s win over Foothills (Great Falls). Lucca Maddy and Brady Shipley each added a score for the co-ed Polson-based team.

Taelor Conrad scored the lone MVCA goal on an assist from Lexi Maddy in Friday’s loss.

CROSS COUNTRY

MISSOULA — Two Mission runners began their cross country seasons in Missoula last Thursday. Tate Weingart led the Bulldogs with a time of 19 minutes, 40 seconds at the Big Sky Coaches’ Invitational, and Ethan Goss-Dickie ran a 21:53.

The rest of the Bulldog boys didn’t have enough practices to participate, coach Marc Cutler said, and the girls team did not run due to a volleyball game.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

GLENDIVE — Former Mission Valley Mariners Bradley Pichler (Polson) and Jeremiah Crawford (Plains) made their college baseball debuts for Dawson Community College over the weekend, defeating the Gillette Rough Riders in four scrimmages.

Pichler pitched three shutout innings over the weekend, allowing just one baserunner.

Crawford saw time at first base and designated hitter.

The duo joins former Mariners Jack Humphrey and Jacob Young on the Buccaneers’ team.
