PABLO—Sheryl Steele was driving home early from work Monday expecting to do some spring gardening. But when an SUV pulled in front of her, she had to change her plans.

Steele, of Polson, walked away from the accident uninjured. Witnesses said the young female driving the SUV was uninjured and tribal police arrested her on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and without insurance, Steele said.

“I’m happy I’m safe but bummed out about my car,” Steele said, looking at the crushed front end of her red, Nissan sedan. “I’m upset she’s not insured which means it comes out of my pocket.”

Steele said she was driving north about 60 mph at about 2:45 p.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 93 at Minesinger Trail when the SUV tried to cross the highway heading west. The crossing is near the Lake County Weed District Office.

Traffic was reduced to one lane for about an hour after the collision, said an officer at the scene.

“I went into work early this morning so I could get off early and work in my yard,” Steele said. Minutes later, her husband came to drive her home from the scene as she carried an armful of personal items salvaged from the car.
