TENNIS: Pirates bitten by injury bug
POLSON — Corvallis completed a sweep of the Polson boys and girls tennis teams on Saturday afternoon, using a dominant singles round to take down the Pirates.
The Blue Devils boys took down the reigning Class A champions behind the strong play of B.J. Pekoc, who took down Polson No. 1 Dylan McCrumb, 7-5, 6-3. Brady Hislop and Tyler Dupuis picked up victories in singles, but No. 4 Tim Russell had to withdraw from the final singles match, which proved to be the decider, with a hamstring injury.
Tommy Mercer and Layne Zimmerman pulled out the only doubles win for the Polson boys.
Corvallis’ girls took three of the four girls singles matches as well. Junior Taylor Rost won at No. 2 for Polson, 7-5, 6-3. Doubles teams Mollie Lemm and Shawna Lenz and Hannah Madsen and Cassie Carlyle took their matches, but the Pirates fell a win short as well.
