Law enforcement and court records - Feb. 13
District Court, Judge Manley presiding
*The following took place on Feb. 5.
-For felony drug charges dating to 2012, Robert Crawford was sentenced to the Montana State Prison (MSP) for 20 years with 10 years suspended.
An affidavit filed with the case states that Crawford was arrested in March 2012 for violating probation. The document indicates that a search at the time of arrest revealed that Crawford was in possession of several containers of methamphetamine, a scale, a spoon, several small plastic bags, syringes and a .40-caliber pistol.
Crawford had already served 690 days in jail at the time of sentencing. The court recommended that Crawford be evaluated for mental health treatment.
-For a felony burglary charge, Trevor Gardipe, was given a deferred three-year sentence. The court also determined that $4,600 is owed in restitution.
An affidavit filed with the case reflects that on Aug. 31, Gardipe, then 17, allegedly broke into the Pieceful Place Smoke Shop in Polson and stole “most of” the store’s merchandise.
Witnesses reportedly identified Gardipe as one of two people to commit the burglary, while the store’s owner also received texts and phone calls that implicated Gardipe.

*The following took place on Feb. 6.
-After violating numerous conditions of his probation, Emery John Smith II, 40, of Pablo, had a suspended sentence revoked at an adjudicatory hearing and was committed to the Department of Corrections (DOC) for one year.
Court documents indicate that Smith has tested positive for methamphetamine on three separate occasions since completing the Connections Corrections substance abuse program in August. Smith also admitted to using alcohol in that time interval and failed to report to his parole officer each week, as instructed.
Smith was granted credit for time served while in custody.
-For allegedly failing to comply with the terms of probation outlined in a July conviction, Ronnie Burland, 30, had a deferred sentence revoked after making admissions in court last Thursday.
Court documents state that in July, Burland was found guilty of felony burglary, and was handed a deferred three-year sentence with an order to serve 20 days in the Lake County Jail. Since that time, Burland has failed to serve the 20-day sentence and reportedly committed other probation violations, including failing to contact his probation officer, burglary, possessing firearms and drug use.
Burland will be sentenced on Feb. 20.
-Stacey Stevens, 39, of St. Ignatius, was arraigned and pled not guilty to felony charges of criminal endangerment and possession of dangerous drugs.
Court records state that in Sept. 2013, Stevens was spotted by a sheriff’s deputy while driving illegally through the school bus drop-off zone outside of St. Ignatius Middle School, with a rifle visible in the car with him. Stevens then “peeled out of the school parking lot and screamed down the road while there were kids walking down the sidewalk.” Eyewitnesses reported being “extremely scared” for the safety of the children, with Stevens’ vehicle traveling an estimated 55 mph while running a stop sign and eventually leaving town at speeds approaching 80 mph.
A chase was called off due to the dangerous speed of Stevens’ escape. Stevens was later found to have an outstanding $50,000 warrant for aggravated assault and aggravated burglary for “allegedly breaking into a man’s house and hospitalizing him by beating him with a rifle, causing his spleen to rupture.”
The affidavit stated that “the defendant is armed and has demonstrated his intent to flee law enforcement at the risk of injuring children.”
The drug charges stem from an incident on Jan. 26, when court documents reflect that Stevens was arrested on an unrelated warrant and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a pipe used to smoke it.
Stevens will next appear for an omnibus hearing on March 6.
-Facing a felony drug charge, Damon Tichbourne, 36, was sentenced to the DOC for three years with no time suspended.
An affidavit filed with the case states that on June 14, 2012, Tichbourne was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over on Mud Lake Trail after crossing Highway 93 without stopping. Tichbourne’s eyes were dilated and he “had sores on his hands and wrists consistent with methamphetamine use.”
Dispatch informed the arresting officer that Tichbourne and the driver of the vehicle both had “extensive criminal histories which included multiple drug offenses.”
A search of a vehicle revealed a syringe containing methamphetamine.
