POLSON — Both Polson’s boys and girls basketball teams head into the weekend’s Northwest A divisional tournament as the No. 4 seed.

Polson’s girls are fresh off a 46-14 shellacking of Whitefish in which they didn’t allow a Bulldogs field goal.

The Pirates draw fifth-seeded Whitefish again tonight at 6 p.m. at Glacier High School in Kalispell.

On the boys side, Polson will face Libby at 7:30 p.m. The Pirates’ two conference wins this season have come against the Loggers, including a one-point victory on the road thanks to a buzzer-beating shot from freshman Tanner Wilson.

The Pirates fell to Frenchtown and Whitefish this past week.

Due to their seeding, the road to a state tournament berth (a team must make the tournament final to do so) is a bit tricky, but Polson boys coach Brad Pluff said it’s doable.

“We’ve done it before from this position,” said Pluff, referring to two seasons ago when Polson entered the tournament seeded fourth and stormed into the state tournament.

To do so this year, they would have to knock off Columbia Falls, which has lost just once in Northwest A play this season.
