Pauline “Polly” Rose Schantz Bartell

Pauline “Polly” Rose Schantz Bartell, 85, died December 15 at her home. She was born July 29, 1928 in Flasher, North Dakota, one of ten children of Gabriel and Rose Schantz. In 1946, the family moved to Seattle where she graduated from high school. She later came to visit an aunt and uncle in the Mission Valley, and never left.

Polly married Edward Bartell in 1951. They farmed initially in Post Creek and moved to the Mountain View neighborhood in 1954. In later years she clerked in various stores in Polson. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, hiking, and traveling. She was a member of the Kalispell Immaculate Conception Chapel.

She is survived by four daughters; Kathy in Syracuse, NY, Debbie in Sammamish, WA, Janene in Syracuse, NY, JoAnn in Pebble Beach, CA, and by ten grandchildren; Luke, Justin, and Rose Bellandi; Gene, Megan, Roy, and Liz Fisher; Peter and Derek Rizwaniuk and Elyssa Keys. She is also survived by a brother, Bob in Seattle, WA, two sisters, Elizabeth and Alvina both in Bremerton, WA, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Edward, and her son Larry. She was also predeceased by her parents, a sister Maria, and five brothers, Frank, Oliver, Larry, Edward and Leonard.

Services will be held at 2:00 on Friday, January 3rd at Grogan Funeral Home in Polson. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Ronan. A reception will be held at the Polson VFW immediately following the funeral.
