Affordable Care Act explained
Assisters are available to come and talk with your community group, neighborhood organization, church group, or at an activity that you think would be a good place for people to receive this information – just call (406) 546-0199 and we will schedule a time that works for you. Health insurance offered by the ACA begins on Jan. 1, 2014, but open enrollment will take place through March of 2014.
Free Preschool Screening
A free developmental and preschool screening clinic for children ages 0 to 5 in the St. Ignatius School District will be held at the St. Ignatius School District will be held in the St. Ignatius Elementary School on Thursday, Jan. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Get help with FAFSA
Polson High School will help Montana students complete and file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at College Goal Montana on Monday and Tuesday, February 3rd and 4th in the Polson High School library. Volunteers will be available from 9:00 – 4:00 both days, and from 5:30 – 7:30 on Monday the 3rd.
Filling out the FAFSA is a crucial step in the process to securing federal and institutional aid to help pay for postsecondary education. Volunteers at the local event dedicate their time to perform duties ranging from greeting and registering families, to providing advice to families completing the FAFSA.
In addition to providing one-on-one support at our local College Goal Montana event, this year’s College Goal Montana will feature short videos to help students and families complete the FAFSA. You can access these videos at SmartAboutCollege.org. Students who file their FAFSA at College Goal Montana and complete a short, online survey will also be entered into a random drawing for a $500 scholarship.
Remember, this help is free of charge. Students from all area high schools are welcome to attend. There will be a pre-FAFSA financial aid presentation in the Polson High School auditorium at 6:00pm, Tuesday, January 21st,, to explain the federal financial aid process and help students/parents prepare for submitting the FAFSA at College Goal Montana. DAR to announce essay winners
Kuilix Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Good Citizen Essay contest winners from four local high schools will be announced and awarded. First place: $250. Second place $100 and Third place $50. Who will be the winners?

Herb meeting
The next gathering of the “Thyme for Herbs Group” will be Tuesday, February 11 at 7 p.m. in the North Lake County Public Library Meeting Room (Polson), 2 First Avenue East (use the east side door).
Our topic will be “Using the Simple Herbs as Food and Medicine”.
We will also be discussing:
-Planning your herb and vegetable garden.
-Strategies for growing herbs in small spaces.
Come learn which herbs you need to have in your home and how to use them to stay well and as medicine.

St. Luke Extended Care Silent Auction
A Hummel Figurine and Other Collectibles Silent Auction is being held in the lobby of St. Luke Community Hospital in Ronan. The fundraiser will benefit the St. Luke Extended Care (ECF) Residents’ Council. Items include porcelain egg holders, a collectible “Mouse Tea Party,” a small porcelain tea pot, a “Tender Loving Care” Hummel plate mint dated 1989, a vintage Japan China ceramic Walt Disney Productions “Tramp” figurine, a Hummel “Little Nurse” figurine, a “Going to Grandmas” Hummel Figurine, and a “Prayer before Battle” Hummel Figurine. Bidding closes Wednesday, Feb 5. The ECF Resident Council recently donated a total of $1,500 to Ronan Bread Basket, Lake County Hospice and to the Council on Aging.
Quilt guild
The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold their regular monthly meeting at the Terrace Lake Community Church on Terrace Lake Rd., on Feb. 4th at 6:30 p.m. Robin will hand out the next step for the educational block of the month. Please be working on your challenge projects and items for the Country Store during the quilt show. Bring your show ‘n tell! The Thursday Quilters will furnish refreshments. Story Time at SKC
The D’Arcy McNickle Library of the Salish Kootenai College hosts Story Time on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30. The events offer story reading and crafts for all ages.
The facility is an academic and public library located on the SKC campus. Our hours of operation are 7:30am to 8:00 pm Monday through Thursday, 7:30am to 4:30pm Friday and 10:00 am to 4:30 pm Saturday. For more information about library services or Story Time call 275 - 4875.
SKC Career Fair
Salish Kootenai College (SKC) Career Services, Student Support Services (SSS), Issksiniip Project, Indigenous Math and Science Institute (IMSI), and Lake County Job Service would like to extend an invitation to your organization to participate in our 2014 Career Fair, Thursday, February 20, 2014. The SKC Career Fair will be held from 9:00a.m. - 2:00p.m. in the Joe McDonald Health and Wellness Center (gym).
The SKC Career Fair is a convenient, effective and inexpensive opportunity for recruiters to meet, network with, and interview qualified applicants. This is a valuable opportunity for representatives from local, state and national organizations to offer full and part-time employment, summer employment, internships and career opportunities. Last year we had approximately 70 employment/recruitment agencies, and over 300 potential employees register and participate in this event.

The next scheduled Board Meeting for the Polson School District will be held Monday February 10th at 5:30 PM in the District Office.
Polar Bear Presentation
On Friday February 7, Salish Kootenai College Professor Dr. Frank Tyro will present a program at the Johnny Arlee/Victor Charlo Theatre on the campus of SKC on the bears of Churchill. The talk begins at noon and will last approximately an hour. A question and answer period will follow. No admission charge.
