Law enforcement and court records - Jan. 30
District Court, Judge Christopher presiding
*The following took place on Jan. 23.
-Based on the terms of a plea agreement, Darwin Zempel, 30, of Ronan, was sentenced to the Department of Corrections (DOC) for five years for a felony drug charge. The court recommended that Zempel be considered for chemical dependency treatment as well as mental health treatment.
The ruling comes after Zempel was said to have violated terms of probation for a previous burglary and theft convictions by engaging in unauthorized travel, alleged possession of ammunition, allegedly stealing a credit card and testing positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.
-Jerome Quequesah, 31, of Ronan, reached a plea agreement and admitted to felony charges of criminal endangerment and criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
Quequesah was charged in the wake of an incident on Jan. 19, 2013, when court documents state that Quequesah was allegedly prowling around the outside of a family’s home and yelling death threats, before heading to his parents’ house and threatening them with a handgun. Quequesah allegedly pointed an unloaded .40-caliber Ruger at his father’s head but could not find where the ammunition was hidden. Quequesah was then arrested by officers responding to the scene.
Quequesah will be sentenced on Feb. 27.
-Jonathan Drennan-Beck, 19, of Pablo, was arraigned and pled not guilty to criminal endangerment, criminal possession of dangerous drugs and two counts of assault with a weapon, all felonies.
The charges are tied to Drennan-Beck’s alleged involvement in a series of December drive-by shootings in Pablo, in which guns were fired into occupied homes.
Court documents state that other suspects from the incident identified Drennan-Beck as the gunman in the Dec. 8 shooting. Officers reportedly found Drennan-Beck hiding in the bathroom of one of the suspect’s homes, following the attack. During a search of the house, they also uncovered a handgun and methamphetamine.
The court scheduled Drennan-Beck for an omnibus hearing on Feb. 13 with a jury trial commencing on Mar. 24.
-Faced with a felony charge of criminal endangerment, Vanessa Kay Jones, 51, of St. Ignatius, pled not guilty in a court appearance last week. According to an affidavit filed in the case, Jones is charged with giving “a large quantity of pills” to a 6-year-old child who was then hospitalized for a drug overdose.
Court documents indicate that Jones, herself, was rushed to the hospital for a suspected drug overdose after officers responded to a report of a possible suicide attempt. At that point, they also found the younger victim, who told officers that she was given “20 red and white pills” and “woke up later and could not walk.”

*The following took place on Jan. 22.
-For drug charges stemming from a 2009 arrest in Polson, Daniel Moomaw, 39, was sentenced to the Department of Corrections (DOC) for five years with all of the term suspended except for 60 days. Moomaw was granted credit for a 40-day stint already served, and the state will determine whether he has an additional 20 days to serve.
Court records state that during a search of a motel room where Moomaw and others were staying, officers discovered several individually wrapped bags of marijuana exceeding 114 grams and numerous ledgers. A vehicle was also searched, revealing additional marijuana, a digital scale, empty plastic bags and a device to wrap and seal items in plastic.
-Based on a plea agreement reached in November, Jay Clark was sentenced to the DOC for three years with no time suspended for a felony DUI charge.
An affidavit reflects that in Oct. 2012, Clark was pulled over and was observed to exhibit “six out of a possible six clues of impairment,” according to the arresting officer. Clark’s driving record reflects at least three prior DUI convictions.
-Christopher Vidulich, 56, pled not guilty to two felony counts of assault with a weapon and an additional felony count of burglary.
According to court documents, on Dec. 25 Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded to “a call of domestic disturbance with shots fired.” Vidulich’s estranged wife was one of two individuals present at the location, and told officers that Vidulich had kicked open the front door. She had had a pistol and “pointed it at [Vidulich], telling him to leave.”
Instead, court records state that Vidulich charged and grabbed the gun, which discharged several times in the ensuing struggle. Eventually the gun was taken away from Vidulich, who was ordered to leave, and later arrested by a Kalispell police officer.
Vidulich will next appear for an omnibus hearing on Mar. 26 with a jury trial commencing on May 5.
-Lisa Old Person, 45, of Arlee, reached a plea agreement and admitted to two felony counts of criminal child endangerment.
Court records state that on Aug. 1, Old Person was pulled over for erratic and unsafe driving on U.S. Highway 93 in Pablo. According to court documents, “two young girls [were] in the back seat who were not wearing seat belts.” A breath test performed at the tribal jail indicated that Old Person had a blood-alcohol content of .111.
Old Person will be sentenced Feb. 26.
