DETAILS: Murdoch’s will have lots of give-a-ways.  The Local Honor guard and Warrior Society will open festivities with a Flag ceremony, the Polson Chamber will have an official ribbon cutting ceremony, and we will also have a drum ceremony.

FRIDAY, JUNE 6

WHAT: Amateur Boxing and MMA

WHEN: 7 p.m.

WHERE: St. Ignatius Community Center

DETAILS: “Smoker” – Mission Valley Rumble. A Boxing & MMA Event for Youth Sports. Sponsored by Mission Little Guy Wrestling. Weigh-ins at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 28 at the Community Center.

SATURDAY, JUNE 7

WHAT: Ninepipes Museum Art Display

WHEN: First Saturday every month through September

WHERE: Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana in Charlo

DETAILS:  The first of four artists, Polson’s Guy Rowbury, will be on hand 2-5 p.m. in the gift shop at the museum with a selection of his opaque watercolors he has shown at the C.M. Russell Show in Great Falls and the Classic American Western Art Show in Beverly Hills.  His pieces showcase the beauty of the western landscape and depict the Indians, trappers, mountain men and wildlife that inhabit the scene.

WHAT: Free mini-basketball camp

WHEN: 9 a.m. to noon

WHERE: Two Eagle River High School

DETAILS: SKC Athletics will host the first 20 girls and 20 boys who register. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will give the commencement address. He will talk with the kids around 10 a.m. and for about an hour will take over the camp.

DETAILS: For ages 7 and up. Breakfast and lunch with activities in between; outdoor games, kickball, football, basketball, dodgeball, native games, volleyball, soccer, shinny, bike riding. Stop in anytime.

WHEN: Lunch – 8 to 10 a.m.; Lunch – 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

DETAILS: Jim Williams presents “Pumas, Guanacos, and Patagonia National Park” a spectacular new National Park in Chile’s Patagonia region.  Jim was sponsored by Patagonia Inc. to travel to Chili. Williams is a wildlife biologist in the Region 1 Wildlife Area Manager for Montana’s Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

WHAT: Detection Dogs Media Day

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE: Salish Point, Polson

DETAILS: The Flathead Basin Commission and Lake County will soon launch a pilot program to evaluate the effectiveness of using detection dogs trained to identify Quagga and Zebra mussels on watercraft. Project managers, dog trainers and the canines will present demonstrations and discussion of this new effort to combat aquatic invasive species.
