WHAT: Lewis to speak about flags, walk across America

WHERE: Miracle of America Museum in Polson

DETAILS: Marine Sgt. Chuck Lewis will cover the history of our American Flag and flag etiquette. Admission is free and there will be free flags for all children.

DETAILS: Dinner is free for all. Polson Presbyterian Church is located across from the Linderman School.

WHAT: Flag Retirement Ceremony

WHEN: 4 p.m.

WHERE: Lakeview Cemetery

DETAILS: On Flag Day, the Veterans Organizations, Marine Corps League Hellroaring Detachment, American Legion Hardwick Post and the VFW Fullerton Post of Polson will retire used and soiled US flags. Anyone that has a flag that needs to be retired may do so by bringing it to the service, you may drop them off at the VFW.

WHAT: Young Eagles Day

WHEN: 9 to 11 a.m.

WHERE: Polson Airport

DETAILS: EAA chapter 1122 will be flying Young Eagles for International Young Eagles Day. All children between the ages of 8 and 17 can get a ride in an airplane free of charge. A breakfast  will be available from 8 to 11 a.m.

WHAT: Detection Dogs Media Day

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE: Salish Point, Polson

DETAILS: The Flathead Basin Commission and Lake County will soon launch a pilot program to evaluate the effectiveness of using detection dogs trained to identify Quagga and Zebra mussels on watercraft. Project managers, dog trainers and the canines will present demonstrations and discussion of this new effort to combat aquatic invasive species.

DETAILS: Director Gil Mangels will talk about memorabilia displays in the museum and demonstrate early firearms used in the War of Independence. Refreshments served at 12:30 p.m. Free admission.
