Man arrested after alleged hammer attack

On Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at approximately 7:11 p.m. Lake County Dispatch received a 911 call of a disturbance in progress in the alley behind 509 4th Avenue East in Polson.  Polson Police responded to the scene and discovered two males had been assaulted with a hammer. 

One of the victims, a 67-year-old male resident of Polson, sustained a head injury and was unresponsive at the scene.  This victim was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Medical Center and ultimately flown to Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell where he underwent emergency surgery.

The second victim, a 36-year-old Polson resident sustained minor injuries and ultimately held the suspect down until responding officer’s arrived.

Desmond Mackay, 35 of Polson was booked into the Lake County Jail on two counts of assault with a weapon.

The Polson Police and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate and updates will be made when further information is available.
