Polson Middle to send wrestlers to nationals
The Polson Middle School wrestling team finished in third place at the State Middle School Tournament held at Fergus County High School in Lewistown on Saturday, March 8.
Seven of the 10 wrestlers Polson entered in the tournament placed in the top five of their weight classes. Gator Cheff and Cameron Brown were state champions. Colton Cote and Parker Alder took third in their weight groups, Bridger Wenzel and Shayne Pierre were fourth and Strann Seemann finished in fifth place at his weight.
The Polson wrestlers that finished in the top four will join the Montana National Middle School Team for the National Dual Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa on April 10-12.
“This was an amazing day for our wrestlers”, said coach Bob Owen. “There were 20 weight classes in the tournament and we had the least number of wrestlers entered in the tournament in comparison to the other teams that finished in the top ten. This is a huge boost to our wrestling program and is a great reward for the work and dedication these kids are putting into their training.”
The Polson Little Guy Wrestling program is in the final three weeks of the season.
More than 80 Polson wrestlers from first through eighth grades will be entered in the Unit 2 qualifying tournament in Arlee this Saturday, March 15.
The top four Beginner Group wrestlers will advance to the Beginner State Tournament in Kalispell on March 22.
The top eight Novice Group and Middle Group wrestlers will advance to the Inter-Valley Tournament in Columbia Falls on March 23, and all of the Junior Group wrestlers will advance to that tournament.
