Senior News - March 13

| March 14, 2014 1:37 PM

Ronan

This Thursday (13th) is our evening meal at 5 p.m. This month, we will be serving pork roast.

Senior commodities will be out on Tuesday, the 18th. They will be available after 2:30 that afternoon. Please come in to pick them up as soon as possible.

As we all know, Monday, the 17th, is St. Patrick’s Day, and we will be serving corned beef and cabbage that day.

Cards will be played here, at 1 p.m., on the 17th, and the foot clinic will be here on the 19th (Wednesday) from 10 a.m. until noon. Please call, (676-2371) and we will get your name on the list for the foot clinic.

On Wednesday, the 19th, we will be having a special chicken dinner. The purpose is to encourage people to come to the Center, after not being here for awhile, and to encourage new people to come in and join us for a meal. We will be having special prizes and a 50/50 cash drawing. So, come on in and join us, and bring a friend.

The Lake County Council on Aging is once again having their Lady’s Luncheon to celebrate Mothers Day. It will be on Saturday, the 10th of May. Call the COA (676-2367) to reserve your ticket, as they must be bought in advance. This helps the ladies to know how much food is needed, and helps to keep the cost down.

Now that the snow is receding, we are once again taking in aluminum cans to recycle. If you have any to donate, please drop them off at the north side of the building. This is a fund raiser shared by the COA and the

Senior Center to help defray the cost of keeping their programs open.

The mill levy for the funding of all of the Senior Centers and the LCCOA will be on the ballot in June. We ask that you vote for this levy, and the

Centers and the COA need the funding that it will provide. If you are not registered to vote, please do so now.

Our menu is as follows: Wed.(12th) is enchiladas, Thurs, (13th) is pork roast, Fri.(14th) is fish, Mon.(17th)is corned beef and cabbage, Wed.(19th) is chicken

Come on in and join us (or your local center) for a great meal and fellowship. You might be surprised at the number of people there that you already know. (And yes, no matter how “young” you are, you are old enough to go to the Senior Center.

Dixon

The visiting pinochle group was stormed in for the past two weeks, but will continue on March 17 (remember to wear something green) at Dixon, at 1:30 p.m.  Stay for the Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner at 5 p.m.!

We appreciate the cheery smiles of our new kitchen helper, Debbie Newstrom. Debbie is known in Dixon for being a Superwoman, going all over town helping where it’s needed, and working hard at whatever she does. Come greet her and see her cute headwear!

It’s also nice to have Harvey and Marge Gould back at the dinner table.  Come join us for delicious meals on Thursdays at noon and Monday eve at 5:00. Every age is welcome to come.  The menu for the rest of the week is:

Mar 13   BRUNCH for lunch Veggie omelette, biscuits & gravy

Mon.      Mar 17   St. Patrick’s Day  corned beef & cabbage

Thurs.   Mar  20  Tilapia (fish)

Polson

We are having our Famous Corned Beef and Cabbage lunch on Friday, the 14th. Can  spring be far behind?

Tired of icy, snow-covered streets? I think our street crew has done a great job of plowing, given the conditions. Kudos to Terry Genbala, Bill Smith and John Hart.

Incidentally, although I should have mentioned it earlier, if you need help clearing sidewalks call Heather with the National Honor Society at 883-6351 ext. 240. They have strapping young lads and lassies that are eager to help.

A special thank you goes to Dave Nash for the donated beef, honey and eggs. It’s great people like you who help us stay afloat. And also, thanks to Frank’s Meats in Pablo who processes it.

Our lunch menu for the week beginning on Thursday the 13th is:

Thursday - - Sausage gravy over biscuits

Friday - - Famous Corned beef, cabbage . .  O’le! St. Paddy’s day lunch. Wear your greenest finery.

Monday - - Manwiches and potato patties

Tuesday - - Hamburger steak w/whipped potatoes

Wednesday - - French dips, m’sieur

Our tax preparers are in Polson on Mondays and Thursdays. Call for an appointment.

The AARP driving classes will resume on April 22nd. They begin at 9:00 a.m., break for lunch and finish after. Come before 9, be ready by class time. Call to be added to the list.

We transport our aluminum cans to Missoula occasionally and would appreciate the use of someone’s cargo trailer or small horse trailer. Please call the senior center if you can help.
