Polson students to receive Dollars for Scholars awards

Polson Dollars for Scholars will award up to $27,500 through 18 scholarships this spring to Polson High School graduates. Scholarship money is provided by the local Polson Dollars for Scholars organization from money generated by various fundraising events, which take place throughout the year, donations from individuals and clubs and from families who provide scholarships in memory of loved ones.

Nine $2,000 scholarships provide financial assistance to PHS graduates who are continuing their education at an accredited four-year, two-year, community college or vocational program. These scholarships are provided in memory of Sue Gregg Lanier, Polson Bay Grocery, Kineas/ Mahoney, Fred Barnowsky, Merle C. Anderson, School District 23 employees, Polson Alumni 1920-1955, Ruth Walker, Dollars for Scholars and a new scholarship in memory of Helen and Wayne Gryde. Polson Dollars for Scholars provides matching funds to increase the amount of the scholarships this year to $2000.

Nine scholarships are for graduating seniors. These are provided by individuals for various reasons. The John Oberlitner Scholarship provided by the Theiler family, Class of ’59 Scholarship, School District 23 Employees Scholarship, the Montecahto Club Scholarship, Toby Nelson Scholarship, VetCare Scholarship, Polson Dollars for Scholars Scholarship, a $2,000 Vo-Tech scholarship, and a new scholarship in memory of Chris Hoyt, a Montana Highway Patrolman. These scholarships are also matched to raise the amount of each scholarship up to $1,000.
