Remembering V-E Day

You won’t find the date on many calendars anymore, and probably few school history classes will mention it, but a few old soldiers and the then family waiting at home are thankful of the date of 8 May 1945. I speak of “V.E. Day” or Victory in Europe over a crazed madman and his Nazi empire.

The Miracle of America Museum, Polson, will be presenting it’s 2nd Thursday evening monthly free program at 6:30 pm in the public meeting room. Ironically, this evening falls on the 69th anniversary of the end of World War 11 in the European theatre.

Veteran Flick Riebe will share some memorable stories and show the piece of shrapnel from a German “88” that he was closely connected with. Displays from the museum collection including an “88” round, newspaper headlines, etc. will also be viewed and explained.

Anyone, with personal memories and feelings of that event or victory celebrations, that may wish to share are welcome to call Gil at 406-270-7895.

Kicking Horse Job Corps says thanks

The staff and students at Kicking Horse Job Corps would like to thank everyone for their participation in the 34th Annual Kicking Horse Pow Wow. If you donated an item for the raffle, bought a raffle ticket, participated in the dancing, or just came and watched, we appreciate all of the support the community provided to make this such a successful event!

We also would again like to thank our honorees: Joe Dupuis, David Morigeau, Kenny McClure, Ignace Couture, Kim Swaney, Ken Gingras, and Lucille Stephanson for starting this wonderful tradition 34 years ago! The KHJC Pow Wow is a celebration that many people look forward to every year while sharing our Native culture with new people.

Again, thank you to everyone – a good time was had by all!

Leibenguth for sheriff

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Kim Leibenguth in support of her running for the Lake County Sheriff position. Kim is not only a personal friend of mine, but she has also been a great mentor. Along with devoting her time to her job, she also plays an avid role as a community member. Kim is exactly the type of person you want to represent your community. She is compassionate, responsible, and very reliable.

Growing up in Lake County and graduating from Polson High School, I am proud to call the valley my home. I care deeply for the people, and want to make sure that everyone is being treated fairly. I can assure you that Kim will do everything possible to keep everyone safe and will treat him or her with dignity and respect. Kim was my Student Resource Officer and went above and beyond to not only make sure my peers and I were safe, but also took the time to get to know us. Kim supported me academically, in sports, and was there to watch me get my high school diploma. During my sophomore year of high school, Kim spent many hours planning a program to help teach students how to be safe drivers. She created shirts for us students that reminded us to wear our seatbelts. This is only one of the great things that Kim did for my peers and I. I know that she has many other great ideas to help make Lake County a better place. Kim is always available to help people in any way possible. I feel comfortable calling her anytime that I have a question or need assistance.

I am very proud to call Kim a personal friend. I am certain that she will make an outstanding sheriff. Please vote for Kim Leibenguth for Lake Country Sheriff!

Big Arm Beautification

The Big Arm Association would like to thank the many volunteers that gave up their time to collect trash along Highway 93 on Saturday, May 3. We would also like to thank the highway Department for providing safety vests for our volunteers. Our small community has once again come together to make Big Arm a special place to live.

Eschenbacher is the right choice

Attorney Steve Eschenbacher has stepped forward to challenge our present Lake County Attorney in the June primary. As a military veteran and skilled attorney, Steve would bring a long past-due sense of professionalism victim responsiveness and a strong work ethic to this vitally important public office.

Now is the time for a positive change, and I would urge you to strongly support Steve Eschenbacher for our Lake County Attorney.
