Flowers and food: Farmers market re-opens

| May 9, 2014 8:03 AM

POLSON -- Shirley Baker shops at the weekly Polson Farmers Market because of the two “F” words - “Flowers and food.”

Baker, of Ronan, attended the season opening of the Farmers Market Friday at the west end of Third Avenue.

“I’m shopping the market,” Baker said as she purchased flowers from Moiese Valley Greenhouse owner Phil Sykes. “It’s a wonderful because you can’t get this stuff anywhere else.”

Sykes, whose wife was back at the home store Friday, said the sales at the market are good but he attends for different reasons.

“It’s a great oulet for our plants,” he said.

A few tables down, market President Lou Anne Hoskinson was busy watching her boys play an egg spinning game and offering customers specially baked breads.

“We couldn’t ask for a nicer start,” she said, enjoying the clear skies and buzzing customers.

Her sons, Joshua, 8, and Jesse, 7, were playing a game in which they had to cooperate to spin a wooden egg on a flat disc. They bought the game from a vendor at the market.

The market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday until Oct. 3.
