Maidens take 6B crown

MISSOULA — Ronan’s girls’ track team raced to a win in the two-day District 6B track and field championships at Big Sky High School in Missoula on Friday and Saturday.

The Maidens team of Alex Dennis, Kiana Howell, Sydnee Clairmont and Ally Buhr won the 400-meter relay narrowly over Florence, and Ronan jumpers and throwers dominated the field events.

Clairmont, a junior, won the long jump and high jump, and teammate Lee Camel took the triple jump crown. Aspen Jore placed first in the shot put and javelin. Dennis won the 100 hurdles, the only track event in which the Maidens took top honors.

Ronan thrower Lucas Gerhardt continued a strong season as he ran away with the boys’ javelin and shot put titles. The senior won both events by multiple feet.

Connor Benn won the pole vault for Ronan as well.

Patrick Eichert led Mission, winning the triple jump in the Bulldogs’ first year apart from their co-op with Ronan. Both Mission’s boys and girls finished fifth in the district meet.
